Honda is one of the most popular motorcycle manufacturers in the world. The history of Honda motorcycles goes back to 1949, when Japan was struggling after World War II and was trying to recover. Soichiro Honda founded the Honda company, after realizing that people needed inexpensive motorcycles. And so did Honda motorcycles appear. Since then, they have developed hugely, but there are still some traditional models which are sought after, even nowadays. One of them is the CX Honda motorcycles series, which was released by Honda in the late 1970s, more exactly in 1978.
The CX Honda motorcycles series included the GL500 and GL650 variants, which immediately grew in popularity do to their modern design and innovative features. These Honda motorcycles were very trendy at that time, because the technology used for their creation was something unseen before. Honda was definitely a leader in the industry, and the company proved this fact to the whole world, when the CX Honda motorcycles were released. One of the best features of the CX series was the engine, as it featured the first V-twin engine ever used on Honda motorcycles. This ‘flying’ V-twin means that the crankshaft configuration was aligned with the axis of the bike, in a longitudinally way. As the cylinders pointed up on either side of the bike, the term V-twin appeared, even if those cylinders were not symmetrical. Nevertheless, this innovative feature turned out to be excellent, as there were records of such Honda motorcycles which ran for more than 200.000 miles without any major work done to their engine.
The wheels were also modernized, as the original Com-Star wheels were combined with the flexible spoked ones, and had tubeless tires. Other modern features of the CX Honda motorcycles series were liquid cooling, dual carburetors for reduced emissions, low-maintenance shaft drive, modular wheels and electric-only starting. As the electronic ignition system was separated from the electrical system, the bike could had be ridden even if the electrical system failed. The CX Honda motorcycles series was produced until 1983. Nevertheless, if you want to have one of these, you could easily go online and search for one, as there are many used Honda motorcycles on the market.
